Alicante Airport to Costa Blanca North

Alicante Airport to Costa Blanca North

Getting from Alicante Airport to the Costa Blanca North is straightforward, but knowing your options in advance makes the journey a lot smoother — especially if you are arriving with family, luggage or during the busy summer months. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is the main arrival point for most visitors to this part of Spain, and the Costa Blanca North — covering the stretch from Villajoyosa up to Calpe — lies roughly 50 to 80 kilometres north of the terminal, depending on your final destination.

The most flexible option is renting a car, and for most holiday visitors it is also the most practical. The drive from the airport to Albir or Alfaz del Pi takes around 45 to 50 minutes via the AP-7 motorway, to Altea around 55 minutes and to Calpe just over an hour. Car hire is available directly at the airport from all major providers, and booking in advance is strongly recommended during July and August when availability drops and prices rise significantly. Having a car also means you can explore the inland villages, visit local markets and move around the coast at your own pace during your stay.

If you prefer not to drive, a private transfer is a comfortable alternative. Several local companies offer door-to-door transfers from Alicante Airport to any destination on the Costa Blanca North at fixed prices. This is particularly useful if you are arriving late, travelling with young children or simply want to start your holiday without the stress of navigating Spanish roads. Prices typically range from around €80 to €120 for a standard vehicle depending on your destination, and booking directly with a local provider is usually cheaper than airport desks.

Public transport is also possible but requires patience. There is no direct bus service from Alicante Airport to most Costa Blanca North destinations. The most common route involves taking the TRAM (line 1) from the airport to Benidorm, which takes approximately one hour and twenty minutes and costs around €3.85. From Benidorm, local buses run to Altea, Albir and Alfaz del Pi. It is a workable option for solo travellers or couples travelling light, but less practical with children or large amounts of luggage.
