The best beaches on the Costa Blanca North are not hard to find, but knowing which one suits you makes all the difference. This stretch of the Spanish Mediterranean coast — running from Villajoyosa in the south up to Calpe in the north — offers an impressive variety of beaches, from wide sandy bays popular with families to quieter coves tucked beneath limestone cliffs. The water is calm, clear and warm from June through to October, and most beaches are well-equipped with sun loungers, showers and nearby restaurants.
Albir is one of the most popular choices along this coast, and for good reason. Its long pebble beach sits at the foot of the Sierra Helada natural park and stays relatively quiet compared to Benidorm, which is just a few kilometres to the south. Playa de Albir is Blue Flag certified and has easy parking, making it a practical choice for families and older visitors. The promenade behind the beach is lined with good restaurants and cafés, and the walk up to the lighthouse offers one of the best views on this stretch of coast.
Further north, Altea has a small but charming beach below its old town. It is more pebble than sand, but the setting — whitewashed buildings rising up the hillside behind you, the Peñón de Ifach visible in the distance — is hard to beat. Calpe, at the northern end of our working area, has two excellent sandy beaches on either side of the famous rock. Playa de la Fossa and Playa Arenal-Bol are both long, sandy and well-serviced, and they tend to be a little less crowded than the beaches further south even in high season.
Benidorm itself has two large urban beaches — Playa de Levante and Playa de Poniente — which are among the most visited on the entire Costa Blanca. They are wide, well-organised and ideal if you want all facilities within easy reach. For something quieter, the small coves around Villajoyosa and the rocky inlets near Finestrat offer a more local feel with fewer tourists even in July and August.
