What to Do in an Emergency

What to do in an emergency Costa Blanca North

Knowing what to do in an emergency during your holiday on the Costa Blanca North can make a real difference. Spain’s general emergency number is 112, which connects you to police, ambulance and fire services and is available 24 hours a day. Operators speak English, and the service covers the entire country including the Costa Blanca. Save this number in your phone before you travel — it is the single most important number you need.

For medical emergencies, the Costa Blanca North is well served by both public and private hospitals. The public Hospital Marina Baixa in Villajoyosa has a 24-hour emergency department and covers the area from Villajoyosa to Benidorm. For international visitors, the two main private hospitals are HCB (Hospital Clínica Benidorm) on Calle Ramón y Cajal in Benidorm (+34 965 853 850) and IMED Levante, also in Benidorm on Calle Ramón y Cajal (+34 966 878 787). Both hospitals have Dutch, Belgian and English-speaking staff, work with international insurance companies and offer 24-hour emergency care. HCB also operates smaller clinics in Albir and Calpe for less urgent situations. IMED has an International Center in La Cala de Villajoyosa specifically set up for international patients.

In the event of theft or a break-in, contact the national police (Policía Nacional) by calling 091 or visiting the nearest comisaría to file an official report — a denuncia. This document is required for any insurance claim. If your passport is lost or stolen, contact your country’s nearest consulate. The Dutch consulate for this region is in Alicante. Keep a photo of your passport in your email or on your phone so you always have your details to hand.

For problems within your holiday rental — such as a water leak, power failure or a broken appliance — please contact Jaap and Mascha as soon as possible. They are available by phone at +34 619 025 214 during office hours (Monday to Friday, 10:00–13:00) and reachable on mobile outside those hours. The sooner they know about a problem, the faster it can be resolved. For serious situations involving the property — such as flooding or structural damage — call them immediately, day or night.

A little preparation goes a long way. Save the emergency numbers before you travel, keep your insurance documents accessible and do not hesitate to contact Jaap and Mascha if you are unsure what to do. They know the area well and are always willing to point you in the right direction. Get in touch at info@cbshouses.com or via www.costablanca.holiday.
